Our House Addiction Recovery Centre (Our House) is a one-year residential recovery centre for adult men. We help individuals embark on a recovery process, leading to meaningful and productive lives. Our facility houses 50 men in a supportive environment where they work to overcome their challenges in a non-institutional setting.
As a part-time Cook & Support Worker, you will be part of both our kitchen and support team dedicated to providing care to the brave men within our facility. Your primary duties include ensuring safe, nutritious food is provided to the clients, a safe and secure facility, responding to client requests for medication and support, communicating effectively with other staff and contributing to a therapeutic environment. All work at Our House will reflect the Mission and Value statements of the organization. The position will have a probation period of 3 months.
Schedule:The primary requirement of this role is to work while also providing scheduled (including statutory holidays) and when possible, short-notice cover-off. Cover off shifts may occur any day of the week (weekdays and weekends) or holidays. The shifts will be Saturday - Monday (10 hour shifts).
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):Reporting to both the Kitchen Manager and the Clinical Manager, the successful candidate will cook breakfast, lunch and dinner and administer medication, while being the primary supervisor and cook on certain days. The successful candidate will have responsibilities which may include:
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals that demonstrate awareness of appropriate portion sizes, while having the knowledge of the current nutrition standard and guidelines and adhering to Alberta Health Standards.
- Maintain a safe, sanitary, and clean kitchen that adheres to Alberta Health Standards.
- Maintain food storage areas to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate diligent time management skills.
- Model behavior that is consistent with and supportive of men in recovery.
- Administer medication to clients when required.
- Direct clients to help with meal preparation.
- Cover off, as needed.
- Monitor client activities and provide effective intervention in crisis situations.
- Act as an advocate for clients.
- Support clients as needed with a trauma-informed, compassionate, clinical lens.
- Perform drug testing as required.
- Maintain daily shift report by documenting information/observations/impressions of client activities that affect other clients and/or the treatment centre.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with other staff, volunteers, and clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:- Must work well as part of a team and individually.
- Must be able to monitor and support clients in a respectful, positive manner.
- Must be able to follow instructions given by supervisors.
- Must have good judgement and respond effectively to situations and crisis.
- Must be able to set appropriate limits and boundaries with clients.
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
- Must be able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and to relate well to working with men of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Must be able to adapt quickly to menu changes.
- Is familiar a kitchen within hospitality, residential or commercial settings.
- Must maintain a well-organized and clean kitchen in accordance with Our House and Alberta Health Standards.
- Must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable with other duties that may arise
- Criminal record check approved by the Executive Director.
- First Aid and CPR certifications are required, and training will be supplied if applicable.
- Medication training is required, and training will be supplied if applicable.
- Food Safety training is required, and training will be supplied if applicable.
