Career OpportunityLooking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are seeking a Design Engineer – Structural to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing conceptual and final structural engineering designs for transit related structures.

What You Will DoReporting to the Chief Engineer – Structural, the incumbent will be responsible for preparing conceptual and final structural engineering designs for transit related structures.
The Design Engineer-Structural reviews the work of Design Draftspersons and Design Technologists in preparing structural drawings and specifications, reviews the work of outside consultants, assists in the preparation of standard drawings, and performs field reviews and shop drawing reviews.
This includes the following:
- Establishing concepts for structures to meet identified criteria established by user groups and architectural space planning.
- Performing analysis and design calculating to confirm the agreed framing concepts and determine final designs which conform to all current codes and standards such as the National Building Code of Canada, the Ontario Building Code, the
- Canadian Highway and Bridge Design Code, CSA A23.1/2/3. CSA S16, and the TTC Design Manual.
- Providing sketches and marked drawings to Design Draftspersons for them to produce structural drawings.
- Providing text and edited copy of structural specifications to Engineering Standards and Support section to produce final specifications for tender and construction.
- Participating in design co-ordination to establish and provide information required from/to other disciplines to produce a coordinated set of structural drawings and specifications.
- Stamping and signing drawings ready for tender and construction.
- Preparing field review reports during construction for submission to Chief Building Official.
- Reviewing and commenting formally on designs, drawings, and specifications prepared by TTC staff and/or outside consultants for new or renovation work for the TTC.
- Taking professional responsibility for the designs as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
- Providing design inputs for Standard and Directive Drawings for structural work.

What Qualifications Do You Bring- Completion of a University Degree in Civil Engineering specializing in structures, combined with several years of related experience in a multidisciplinary design environment.
- Must be licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario and hold a P. Eng designation.
- Possession of a valid Class “G” Driver’s license for the Province of Ontario, and use of own vehicle for occasional site visits and inspections during non-revenue hours (approx. 2am to 6am).
- In-depth knowledge of Civil Engineering (Structural) principles, methods and practices for the design and construction of transit facility
