Strategic Mandate: Empowering Technical ExcellenceA primary objective for this hire is to provide a strategic leadership buffer for our high-level Technical Architects. We currently have "technical warriors" who are often pulled into reactive troubleshooting. You will provide the business oversight and leadership they need to remain focused on high-level architecture, effectively removing administrative "dead weight" and aligning technical operations with our rapid rural fibre scale-out.
Position Overview- Role Title : Director of IT / Network Architect (Title dependent on individual skillset).
- Reporting To : VP, Network & Operations
- Location : 100% Remote across Canada.
- Travel : Occasional travel (1–2 times per month) to the headquarters in rural MB.
- Compensation : $100,000 – $130,000 base salary with an approximate 15% annual bonus.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Operations- Implement the company’s telecom strategy aligned with business objectives while staying abreast of industry trends.
- Manage capital (CapEx) and operational (OpEx) technology budgets to ensure cost-effective infrastructure solutions.
- Oversee vendor and service-provider relationships, including SLAs and performance metrics.
- Lead and mentor a technical team of 10–12 people, ranging from technicians to support staff and architects.
Technical Execution & Crisis Management- Hands-on Mastery : Maintain the non-negotiable ability to "mash the keyboard" and personally solve complex network issues during outages—not just manage them.
- Infrastructure Oversight : Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of network infrastructure, including servers, voice/data systems, and internet connectivity.
- Performance Assurance : Collaborate closely with Network Engineering and Field Operations to ensure network maintenance and performance.
- The "Last Line of Defense" : Act as the leader who steps in during high-stakes crises (like DDoS attacks) to resolve outages in minutes rather than hours.
Technical Expertise & Must-HavesIndustry Experience: 10+ years in Telecommunications or ISP environments.
Networking Core: Expert-level knowledge of Routing (BGP, OSPF), DNS, and Service Provider architectures.
Platform Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Cisco (ASR, Nexus) and Juniper (MX, QFX) platforms.
Protocols: Proficiency with MPLS, VXLAN, and Traffic Engineering.
Business Mindset: Ability to move from high-level strategic thinking to tactical execution.

- Master of Engineering or a similar advanced degree.
Non-Starter Profiles- Pure People Leaders : Candidates who are no longer "hands-on" or cannot troubleshoot the network personally.
- Data Center Support Only : Profiles focusing solely on traditional IT support without ISP-specific routing and scale experience.
- "Big Tech" Bureaucrats : Individuals who require extensive pre existing processes and protocols
