Position OverviewNorthland Forest Products is seeking a flexible, well-rounded, and team-oriented Forestry Coordinator to join our woodlands group. Reporting to the Forestry Superintendent, this role plays a key part in ensuring a safe, cost-effective, and sustainable fibre supply for our Fort McMurray sawmill. You will work as part of a collaborative team committed to responsible forest management that meets all regulatory, environmental, and certification requirements.
Why This Role Is UniqueThis is a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the full spectrum of forestry operations. Rather than focusing on one specialty area, the Forestry Coordinator will be involved in planning, harvesting, hauling, and silviculture activities from start to finish.
You will work closely with experienced forestry professionals and contractors, gaining mentorship, practical field experience, and exposure to all aspects of sustainable forest management. This is an ideal role for a forestry professional who wants to build a broad, well-rounded skillset and accelerate their career development.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure all forestry activities comply with applicable legislation, company policies, and Environmental Management Systems.
- Coordinate operational planning, harvesting, hauling and silviculture activities.
- Participate in budgeting, cost tracking, and operational performance monitoring.
- Conduct field inspections, compliance audits, and reporting.
- Perform quality control checks and maintain accurate operational data.
- Use GIS, GPS, and mapping tools to support planning and field activities.
- Liaise with government agencies to secure approvals and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.
QualificationsRequired- Graduation from a recognized post-secondary forestry program.
- Minimum of three years of related forestry experience.
- Eligibility for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals (AAFMP).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience using GIS and GPS systems.
Assets- Knowledge of forest certification programs (SFI, FSC, ISO).
- Valid safety certifications such as Defensive Driving, WHMIS, H2S Alive, First Aid, Bear Awareness, ATV/Snowmobile Safety.
- Experience working in northern or remote environments.
