About the Role:We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing and overseeing all health and safety protocols and procedures on-site for our live events. This role requires strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills and a passion for ensuring the well-being of all individuals involved in our events.
Responsibilities:- Implement and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures.
- Sign in/out all staff / contractors on-site.
- Lead daily ‘toolbox’ talks with contractors and staff.
- Brief contractors, staff and visitors on site safety requirements.
- Address PPE usage and requirements.
- Maintain the Worksite Health & Safety Board.
- Conduct daily site audits.
- Conduct risk assessments and work to ensure that appropriate measures are in place to mitigate potential hazards.
- Conduct incident investigations.
- Collaborate with event organizers, engineers, technical specialists, production teams, and vendors to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on health and safety best practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety initiatives, making adjustments as necessary.
- Serve as the on-site primary point of contact for all health and safety related issues during events.
- Conduct post-event evaluations and implement recommendations for improvement.
- Properly document all safety issues.
Skills & Experience:- The completion of an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution, OR
- Be currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary diploma or degree program for Occupational Health and Safety, OR
- Demonstrate 2 years of work experience in the Occupational Health and Safety field preferably in the event industry.
- Experience working as part of a JHSC committee
- Comfortable working on laptops and tablets
- Strong knowledge of Ontario health and safety regulations and standards
- Competent public speaker with experience talking to large crowds of 100+
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ontario Working at Heights certificate with expiry post Oct 2026
- Competent with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and form applications
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (preferred)
- JHSC 1&2 certificate (preferred)
- Forklift Certificate (preferred)
- Elevated Working Platform (EWP) certificate (preferred)
- Possess a diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized post secondary institution (preferred)
- Hold a CRST or CRSP designation (preferred)
- Ability to work; days, evenings, and weekends including holidays, as required to support operational requirements
- Ability to lift 50lbs
Work Environment:As the role will also work onsite during our events, there will be work on weekends and holidays with longer workdays typical of event hours. Some events will require travel outside of the city, during such periods Projects will provide accommodations, meal arrangements, and any travel expenses.
