The Opportunity:The Financial Post is hiring a senior journalist in Saskatoon to expand our coverage of Western Canada. The successful candidates will join our dynamic team in delivering breaking news, in-depth analysis and long-form features on the region’s economy during a pivotal time.
The Financial Post Western Bureau provides unparalleled coverage of businesses, trends and newsmakers, working with the Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald, Saskatoon StarPhoenix and Vancouver Sun.
What you’ll do:Your mission is to dig up stories in your own backyard, and bring them to a national audience. As a reporter with the Financial Post, you’ll be expected to:
- Cultivate sources
- Find stories buried in documents and break news on tight deadlines
- Writing in a clear, concise and engaging style
- Covering the daily news file
- Investigating in-depth stories and writing explainers on complicated topics for a broad, national audience.
Who you are:- 5+ years of reporting experience, preferably in business journalism
- Knowledge of or a willingness to learn about one or more of the following coverage areas: energy, real estate, mining, agriculture and investing
- Demonstrated ability to identify trends and drivers behind the news, allowing you to explain not just what is happening, but why — and what it means
- Demonstrated ability to write effectively in different formats, from breaking news to explanatory work to long-form features
- Canadian Securities Course is an asset
- Experience with data analysis is an asset
- Video or podcast experience is an asset

Compensation:Employment offers presented to the selected candidate are based on a combination of qualifications, experience, responsibilities of the role and the candidate's location.
Base Salary: $42,001 - $52,000
