Position OverviewElmwood is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Support Worker with a safety-first mindset to join our team. This role involves performing general maintenance and repairs for our fifteen community homes and Kinsmen Manor. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining safe and comfortable environments for individuals living with intellectual disabilities. This position is ideal for someone with hands-on maintenance experience who is eager to make a meaningful difference.
Role ResponsibilitiesGeneral Maintenance and Repairs- Conduct interior and exterior maintenance and repairs in a safe, timely, and cost-efficient manner for our fifteen community homes and Kinsmen Manor.
- Address maintenance requests promptly, collaborating with other Maintenance Staff to ensure issues are resolved effectively.
- Maintain and repair heating, ventilation, plumbing, major appliances, equipment, and furniture as needed.
- Perform general interior repairs, including but not limited to drywall patching, painting, tile replacement, and minor carpentry.
- Transport equipment and supplies between Elmwood properties as required.
Preventative Maintenance- Coordinate routine visits to Elmwood properties to perform preventative maintenance and checks on appliances, equipment, furniture, vehicles, grounds, and fire and safety systems.
- Maintain detailed logs of all equipment, maintenance and repairs to ensure compliance and efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience- Practical knowledge of heating, ventilation, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and groundskeeping is essential.
- One year of experience in general maintenance and repairs within a residential or commercial setting is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) certification or willingness to obtain this certification.
- Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and a safety-first approach.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
- Physically fit and able to perform tasks that involve lifting, bending, twisting, and climbing.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside standard business hours, including weekends, as needed.
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory drivers abstract.
- As required by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant: successful applicant must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
- Final Candidates are required to provide satisfactory criminal record checks including a vulnerable sector search
This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant and will commence for 8 weeks over the summer and works 30 hours per week. The wage for this role is $21.30 per hour.
