What you'll doOversees operations at the BC Hydro Restoration Centre, coordinating responses to public safety incidents and customer electrical issues. Directs the dispatch of field crews to ensure timely and efficient service restoration. Contributes to the development and execution of processes, standards, and procedures related to Emergency Restoration.

Manages the use of the Outage Management System (PowerOn) across the province, makes sure staff are trained, looks into system problems, decides if updates are needed, and oversees the rollout of new features and improvements.
Participates in the development and implementation of processes and procedures for the use of smart meters data and functionality to improve outage information used in prediction, customer outage and restoration.
Contributes to the design and execution of processes, standards, and procedures aimed at meeting provincial requirements for faster electrical system restoration, enhanced reliability, and improved customer satisfaction. Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures, monitors daily outage response times, and assesses the effectiveness of current practices and tools to boost efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Oversees and manages a team of approximately 20 staff working around the clock at FVO and SIO. These employees are responsible for receiving and analyzing trouble calls and dispatching those orders to crews across the province. Responsibilities also includes recruiting for vacant positions, providing training and development, conducting performance evaluations, collaborating closely with field managers during both routine operations and storm events, and manages the call-out process within COPS.
What you bring- Successful candidate will have a university degree and/or professional designation or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the electrical utility environment.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the distribution system operations or trouble dispatch is required and would be considered in lieu of formal education. Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated progressive management and leadership experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of BC Hydro’s electrical distribution and transmission systems.
- Knowledge and experience managing in a unionized environment and of associated collective agreements.
- In-depth knowledge of the Outage Management System and related software and other BCH and T&D applications used by the business group, including but not limited to PowerOn, COPS, SAP, Passport, Dad, Gateway, Sharepoint and other Microsoft applications.
- Ability to plan, schedule and manage response and dispatch activities for the continuous, around- the-clock nature of distribution emergency restoration.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, consistently making effective decisions under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations
