Role Summary:The Managing Director, AI & Emerging Technologies is accountable for setting and executing CPP Investments’ enterprise agenda for Broader AI including Generative AI and emerging technologies. Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Technology & Data, this role combines platform engineering leadership, disciplined execution, and forward-looking ideation to ensure the Fund can responsibly adopt, scale, and derive measurable business value from advanced technologies.
This role oversees a dedicated AI & Emerging Technologies team, responsible for building, testing, and deploying innovative technology capabilities into the enterprise. The MD ensures execution excellence—from proof-of-concept to enterprise deployment so that CPP Investments can adopt new technologies quickly, reliably, and securely.
The MD is accountable for driving disciplined delivery of emerging technology solutions, creating tangible business outcomes, and positioning the Fund to leverage innovation at scale.
Accountabilities & Qualifications:Accountabilities- Provide enterprise leadership for Generative AI and emerging technologies by setting a clear technology vision, roadmap, and implementation approach aligned with CPP Investments’ mandate and business strategy for AI scaling and adoption.
- Anticipate industry and technology trends, assess risks and opportunities, and translate insights into actionable strategies that strengthen the Fund’s competitive edge
- Lead the design, build, and operation of enterprise-grade AI and emerging technology platforms.
- Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and integrated with core technology and data platforms. Establish engineering standards, architecture patterns, and governance to enable repeatable, high-quality delivery at scale.
- Lead ideation, proof-of-concept, and pilot initiatives that explore high-potential use cases for GenAI and emerging technologies.
- Balance rapid experimentation with disciplined evaluation, ensuring successful initiatives transition efficiently from concept to production-ready capabilities.
- Collaborate with the GenAI product owner and engineering teams across CPP Investments to integrate emerging technology into core workflows.
- Build and manage strategic relationships with external partners, vendors, and ecosystem participants to accelerate delivery and access leading capabilities.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing, diverse AI & Emerging Technologies teams.
- Foster an inclusive culture of continuous learning, accountability, and responsible innovation.Develop future engineering leads, strengthen enterprise capability in AI and advanced technologies, and set clear performance expectations aligned with enterprise outcomes.
Qualifications- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required
- Advanced education or professional certifications in AI, machine learning, or cloud technologies considered an asset
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in technology leadership, including AI or advanced technology platforms
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale technology initiatives in complex enterprise environments
- Experience in engineering and delivery emerging technology platforms including Generative AI
- Strong track record of moving from pilots to scaled, production-grade deployments
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, MLOps, data platforms, APIs, and modern software engineering practices
- Knowledge of technology risk management, security, and responsible AI principles
- Understanding of financial services or large, complex enterprises and their regulatory and risk environments
- Proven ability to lead technical teams through complex, fast-paced delivery cyclesExperience in financial services, investment management, or other complex enterprises is preferred
