We are partnering with a well-established, privately held MEP consulting firm specializing in the upgrade and modernization of existing buildings. With a strong pipeline of retrofit projects across institutional, municipal, and commercial sectors, this team is known for its practical, hands-on approach to improving building performance and extending asset life.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Designer / CAD Technologist who enjoys working on real-world building conditions and seeing projects through from site investigation to implementation.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed mechanical design drawings for retrofit projects (HVAC, plumbing, hydronic systems) using AutoCAD or Revit.
- Translate field measurements, site observations, and existing drawings into accurate design documentation.
- Size ductwork, piping, and mechanical equipment in accordance with project requirements.
- Perform heat loss/heat gain calculations as needed.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers to execute design intent and incorporate markups.
- Set up and maintain drawing packages in line with internal standards.
- Revise drawings throughout various project phases (design, tender, construction).
- Support site visits and field measurements when required.
Qualifications- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems, or CAD Technology.
- 5-10 years of experience in mechanical building systems design.
- Prior experience working on existing buildings or retrofit projects is strongly preferred.
- Canadian consulting engineering experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including ventilation, air conditioning, boiler/chiller plants, plumbing, and heating distribution.
- Experience with ductwork and piping layout/sizing.
- Familiarity with building controls/automation systems is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Compensation TransparencyThe expected compensation range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
