Why Work With UsReporting to the Manager of Information Technology Services, the Network Security Supervisor is accountable for the strategic planning, implementation, and ongoing administration of security controls designed to safeguard The County of Lennox & Addington’s network infrastructure, servers, and cloud environments. This position is responsible for overseeing the operation and effectiveness of security technologies, monitoring system and security logs, responding to security alerts, and leading investigations related to potential or confirmed security incidents.
The Network Security Supervisor also contributes to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices, ensuring the ongoing integrity, confidentiality, and availability of municipal information systems.
What You Will DoReporting to the Manager, Information Technology, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to enhance the well-being of the individuals and communities we serve. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Ability to operate within the County’s policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations to lead and oversee the security, operation, and overall maintenance of the County Network.
- Discover, plan, implement and maintain security measures to protect Lennox & Addington County networks, servers, and related systems.
- Lead the security, maintenance, and ongoing support of technologies including firewalls, switches, wireless networks, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), endpoint protection, vulnerability management tools, and secure remote access solutions.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide direction to technical staff responsible for network and security operations.
- Identify potential security threats and implement appropriate mitigation and remediation strategies.
- Collaborate with external vendors, manage security service providers, and consultants to support security initiatives.
- Monitor network activity and analyze security alerts to identify and respond to potential risks.
- Lead security investigations and incident response efforts, ensuring timely and effective resolution of security incidents.
- Provide network and security expertise for new IT projects, system implementations, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and cybersecurity frameworks, including: Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, CCCS – Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework
- Conduct security reviews and risk assessments for new technologies, systems, and cloud services.
- Promote cybersecurity awareness and best practices across the organization.
- Develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity policies, standards, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Work overtime as required, including on-call rotation.
What You Will BringWe are looking for someone who shares our passion for helping people live their best lives and brings:
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, network administration, or cybersecurity.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in IT leadership or supervisory role. Experience in a municipal or public sector environment is considered an asset.
- Ability to work primarily on-site, with occasional remote work opportunities based on operational requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft cloud environments, including Azure, Microsoft 365, and associated security and identity platforms.
- Demonstrated experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, routers, and related security devices.
- Strong knowledge of network security technologies and protocols, including firewall management, network segmentation, VPNs, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and secure network architecture.
- Proven ability to distinguish between various types of cyberattacks and threat actors, and to develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Ability to analyze and correlate incident artifacts to identify emerging attack techniques, tools, and threat actor footprints.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication (oral and written), organizational, documentation, and research skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment while demonstrating leadership, sound judgment, initiative, and critical thinking, along with awareness of emerging technologies.
