OverviewWe are seeking an Operational Risk & Controls Consultant to support risk and control activities across various business areas. This role is hands‑on and execution‑focused, working independently to assess, test, and document operational controls. The consultant will leverage existing tools and templates to evaluate whether controls are designed and operating effectively, partnering directly with business stakeholders.
This role is not IT‑focused. While some exposure to IT General Controls or administrative tools may be helpful, the emphasis is on operational and business risk, not designing or implementing system security controls.
Key Responsibilities- Perform operational risk and control assessments within assigned business areas
- Test existing controls to determine design and operating effectiveness
- Document processes and controls clearly using provided templates and tools
- Engage directly with business partners to understand current-state operations
- Identify control gaps and provide clear observations and findings
- Support risk assessments, control testing, and related documentation activities
- Contribute to ad hoc risk or operational initiatives as required
- Work independently with minimal oversight; no direct reports
Required Qualifications- 3–5 years of experience in operational risk, controls, audit, or a related risk management function
- Strong understanding of key risk management concepts, including risk assessments and control effectiveness
- Experience documenting business processes and control frameworks
- Comfortable engaging directly with business areas to test and assess controls
- Ability to work autonomously and manage workstreams independently
- University degree (any relevant discipline)
Nice‑to‑Have / Assets- Canadian risk-related certifications (e.g., risk assessment or governance certifications)
- Any professional certifications in risk, audit, or controls (complementary, not mandatory)
- Background in operational risk, business risk, internal controls, or audit
