Trade Smart College is the new benchmark in pre-apprenticeship training. We put professionalism at the heart of our program, to ensure our students have the skills that trades companies demand from entry-level employees.
We are looking for one part-time instructor, 15 hours per week, to teach a general trades course to our students. This is a year-round position, focused on teaching the fundamentals of hand and power tools. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience and/or training in carpentry.
This position is part of the instructional team that delivers a premium training experience for students and employers, based around the foundational technical and professional skills required in the trades.
The Part-Time Instructor - General Trades Skills is responsible for delivering the first class each day, Monday to Friday, and to provide the necessary assessment and documentation to the instructional team to support the learning experience. All classes are delivered in-person, from 7:15 to 9:00AM each weekday. Success for this position consists of training students in the proper use of common trades tools, and helping them build a level of competence suitable for entry-level trades work. The curriculum for this course is fully built, and will be provided to the successful candidate.
The instructor must work collaboratively with other instructors and members of the College team to ensure that the curriculum is meeting employer needs, and that students are succeeding in the program. This role has supporting responsibility for turning recruits into people who can become excellent entry-level employees in the trades.
Reports to: Student Success Manager.
Must meet the following Ministry regulations to be qualified as an instructor:
48 months of work or teaching experience in the vocation, acquired within the preceding 10 years, or a combination of the two. OR 24 months of work or teaching experience in the vocation, acquired within the preceding 10 years, or a combination of the two and one of the following:
All instructors are required to provide two letters of reference from individuals of no relation verifying the work/teaching experience in the discipline.
Monday to Friday mornings, with occasional afternoons or full days
