Every compounded pharmaceutical and nutraceutical preparation is carefully created based on prescriptions from healthcare professionals and institutions, ensuring patients receive the exact formulation and dosage required for optimal outcomes.
We are currently seeking a Sterile Compounding Supervisor to join our expanding team. Reporting to the CEO and Designated Manager, this role will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing all sterile compounding operations to uphold patient safety, regulatory standards, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:- Maintain and oversee the quality program, including controlled substances management, reporting, and ongoing procedure updates to support continuous improvement
- Train and mentor compounding pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and quality assurance/maintenance staff
- Develop, update, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure full compliance with guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate and monitor daily compounding practices, identifying efficiencies and implementing best practices
- Support daily sterile preparation activities (including antibiotic batches, anesthetics, TPN, oncology, and narcotics) while ensuring adherence to SOPs, NAPRA standards, and sterile compounding principles
- Supervise and participate in daily sterile compounding, reinforcing proper techniques and safety practices
- Implement and monitor improvement plans to ensure consistency and efficiency in pharmacy operations
- Collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager and CEO to supervise activities and ensure compliance with patient safety standards
- Ensure full adherence to compounding procedures, relevant legislation, Health Canada guidelines, and Standards of Practice
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports
- Ensure that quality standards and customer expectations are consistently met
- Perform additional responsibilities as required
Qualifications and Skills:- Part A Member of the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- 2 years of minimum experience in sterile and non-sterile compounding environment
- Compounding Certification considered an asset, preferably former training with PCCA, Medisca or equivalent
- Must have extensive experience & knowledge of USP 795, 797, 800
- Previous experience in writing and updating SOPs for a compounding pharmacy, hospital or previous drug preparation facility, drug information resource, formula development
- Experience working in a compounding specialty pharmacy or drug preparations experience required
- Must have experience running day to day operations in compounding pharmacy
- Must be able to fluently communicate in English both written and orally
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and changing priorities
