About the OpportunityOur client is seeking an Interim Senior Manager, Investment Finance to step into a key leadership role supporting a global private markets investment platform. Reporting into senior investment finance leadership, you will oversee a team responsible for investment accounting, middle-office support, and end-to-end reporting for venture and other private capital strategies.
In this role, you will lead a seasoned team (manager, analyst, and co-op) that partners closely with deal, valuations, legal, tax, and compliance teams on a high volume of complex transactions. You will join at a pivotal time as the organization implements a new investment accounting system and navigates a demanding audit and reporting cycle. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader with private equity or asset management experience to influence processes, ensure the integrity of investment data, and support strategic decision-making in a sophisticated, global investment environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead month-end close activities for assigned private capital and venture portfolios, ensuring books are closed within four business days.
- Oversee reconciliations, internal reporting to corporate finance, and consolidated reporting for the ventures portfolio and broader private capital platform.
- Manage day-to-day middle-office activities, including review and support of investment transactions and ad hoc deal-related requests.
- Interact closely with valuations, legal, tax, compliance, and deal teams to support acquisitions, funding of investments, and other transactions.
- Oversee cash management activities, including monitoring liquidity, coordinating capital calls, and managing cash flows for external limited partners.
- Prepare and/or review carried interest calculations and related analyses.
- Support quarter-end reporting requirements and contribute to financial reports and analysis for senior leadership.
- Lead the preparation of tax-related financial information for filings due in May and support audit deliverables up to the March 31 year-end.
- Maintain and enhance financial controls, processes, and documentation related to investment accounting and middle-office activities.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and day-to-day direction to a team of three, ensuring clear priorities, accountability, and strong performance.
- Utilize E-Front and other systems to support accurate investment accounting, data integrity, and reporting as the platform moves toward go-live.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency within the investment finance and middle-office function.
What You Bring- Professional accounting or finance designation (e.g., CPA, CFA, or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
- Approximately 8+ years of progressive experience in investment finance, accounting, or a closely related field, including at least 2 years in a people leadership role.
- Experience in private equity, venture capital, or asset management, with exposure to complex and illiquid investments.
- Strong knowledge of investment accounting, financial reporting, and IFRS; experience with fair value measurement and pension or institutional investment environments is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing finance teams, including overseeing direct reports with established tenure and strong personalities.
- Proven middle-office experience, including working closely with deal teams, reviewing financial models, tracking capital calls and distributions, and supporting regulatory or investor reporting.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, project-heavy environment where the team is stretched due to system implementations and competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (valuations, legal, tax, compliance, risk, and investment professionals).
- Experience with investment systems such as E-Front or similar platforms is an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with a hands-on approach to meeting tight deadlines (month-end, quarter-end, audit, and tax).
