Role OverviewAs a Senior Advanced Test Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that critical aerospace products and systems can withstand the extreme environmental stresses they will encounter during their lifecycle.
This position focuses heavily on testing and evaluating products in severe environmental conditions—such as temperature extremes, intense vibration, and electromagnetic interference—that can affect performance and reliability. You will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing these tests to validate product performance under strict regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Design and Development:
- Develop test software utilizing National Instruments LabWindows and TestStand to automate complex product testing, focusing heavily on Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for technician usability.
- Create detailed electronic schematics, review circuit board layouts, select components, and design equipment test racks using a combination of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) and custom equipment.
- Develop prototypes and models to test and evaluate the functionality and feasibility of new electronic test designs.
- Manage strict documentation of design processes, testing protocols, and compliance with industry standards.
- Test Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement comprehensive environmental testing approaches based on product requirements and stringent aerospace standards (e.g., MIL-STD, IPC, ASTM).
- Conduct rigorous physical tests—such as thermal cycling and electrodynamic vibration—to assess product reliability and performance.
- Conduct Measurement System Analysis to assess equipment performance and generate Test Readiness reports.
- Develop and present Test Equipment Preliminary and Critical Design presentations at Design Reviews to internal and external stakeholders.
- Equipment Management & Data Analysis:
- Create Calibration documents to maintain complex environmental test equipment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Analyze raw test data, perform trend analysis, and provide detailed reports on findings (including failures, root causes, or deviations from expected performance).
- Collaborate with Engineering support teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and minimize downtime.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Compliance:
- Collaborate with engineering, QA, and product management to integrate electronic test systems seamlessly with overall product designs.
- Create Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation to support Test Leads, working closely with vendors to obtain accurate quotations.
- Stay continuously updated with industry standards and regulations, participating in internal audits to maintain lab certifications.
Required Qualifications (You Must Have)- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in environmental testing.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of complex automated test setups and methodologies within highly regulated industries (Aerospace or Automotive preferred).
- Clearance: Must be eligible for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications (We Value)- Master's degree in Engineering.
- Strong, demonstrable knowledge of environmental testing standards (specifically MIL-STD).
- In-depth, hands-on knowledge of operating physical environmental test equipment (shakers, thermal chambers, etc.).
- High competency in advanced data analysis and statistical methods to interpret testing results accurately.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional teamwork skills.
