Overview:We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Child & Youth Workers/Support Workers to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children and youth facing various challenges.
Job Summary:The Support Worker is responsible for providing trauma-informed, strength-based direct care, emotional support, and advocacy for children and youth in care within a residential and community setting. This role involves building trusting relationships, implementing personalized care plans, and working collaboratively with other professionals to ensure the well-being and development of those served. Responsibilities include supporting daily routines, life skills development, and safe community engagement, including transportation to school, appointments, and recreational activities. The ideal candidate is compassionate, patient, and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals.
Key Responsibilities:Relationship Building:- Establish and maintain trusting and supportive relationships with individuals served by the organization, particularly children and youth.
- Engage with individuals to understand their needs, preferences, and goals.
Emotional Support:- Provide empathetic and non-judgemental emotional support to individuals facing challenges such as trauma, abuse, neglect, mental health issues, and behavioral difficulties.
- Offer guidance and encouragement to help individuals build resilience and self-confidence.
Intervention Implementation:- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans tailored to the unique needs and circumstances of each person.
- Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure the best outcomes.
Activity Facilitation:- Organize activities and programs that promote social and emotional development, life skills, and community involvement.
- Encourage participation and create a positive, inclusive environment.
Collaboration and Advocacy:- Work closely with colleagues, caregivers, and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated and holistic support for individuals.
- Advocate for the rights, needs, and interests of individuals served, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
Documentation:- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interactions, assessments, interventions, and progress.
- Ensure that all documentation meets organizational and regulatory standards.
Transportation Responsibilities:- Safely transport children and youth to school, appointments, access visits and community activities
- Follow all organizational policies, Ministry requirements, and safe driving practices
Team Participation:- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Contribute to a positive team environment and share insights and strategies with colleagues.
Adherence to Standards:- Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards in all interactions and activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of individuals served.
Self-Care:- Prioritize personal well-being and self-care to maintain resilience and effectiveness in the role.
- Seek support and resources as needed to manage the emotional demands of the job.
Qualifications:- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Developmental Service Work, Child & Youth Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with children, youth, or vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and behavioral management techniques.
- Compassion, patience, and a commitment to supporting others.
Requirements:- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certificate
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check (current) or Broad Record Check
- A valid minimum G2 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and appropriate insurance coverage, in accordance with Ministry requirements
Working Conditions:- Residential care
- Potential exposure to challenging situations that require emotional resilience
- Requires flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays
- This is an on-call position where staff are required to be available for shifts on an as-needed basis
Physical Requirements:- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods as needed.
