We are a family living in Pickering, looking for a high-energy, personable, positive, patient, and kind support assistant to engage our 10 year old son in meaningful ways for 4 hours after school, 3 days per week between 2:30-6:30pm (Mondays, Tuesdays & Fridays, and possible weekends). Our son is active, energetic, and enthusiastic about life! He enjoys the outdoors, and is excited to see and learn new things. The primary focus of this position is to support our child in participating in community activities, developing social and life skills, and maintaining a structured, nurturing environment. The role also includes light household duties to help keep things running smoothly at home.
Key Responsibilities- Community Engagement & Activity Support
- Plan and accompany outings (e.g., playgrounds, swimming, recreational centres, sensory-friendly events)
- Encourage participation in physical activities like running, swimming, or nature walks
- Support social interaction and communication in public settings
- Provide emotional support and help with transitions or new experiences
- Assist with after-school routines and activities
- Help with homework or educational games (if needed)
- Prepare snacks and meal-prep
- Grocery shopping and errands
- Light cleaning and laundry
Communication & Collaboration- Maintain open communication with family members
- Share updates on progress, challenges, and daily activities
- Collaborate on weekly plans and goals
Qualifications- Experience working with children with autism or other developmental differences (preferred, but not required )
- Warm, patient, active and playful demeanour
- Strong organizational skills and reliability
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (preferred)
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
Schedule & Compensation- Part-time hours (2:30 - 6:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and possible weekends)
