The OpportunityWSP is seeking a Team Lead, Project Controls & Operations to lead and elevate the Project Controls Analysts (PCA) team within the Bridges, Highways & Roads Ontario portfolio of the Transportation business line. This role is based in the Greater Toronto Area and is designed for a leader who is passionate about people, process clarity, and operational excellence.
This position’s primary focus is people leadership and day‑to‑day operational management—supporting the PCA team, strengthening consistency, and enabling efficient, predictable project controls workflows. While not a project‑specific delivery role, the Manager may periodically support major projects to ensure alignment of standards and execution quality.
The role reports directly to the Director Operations and works closely with Operations, Finance, Project Controls, and Project Delivery teams to build a high‑performing project controls function centered around clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Your ImpactPeople Leadership- Lead, coach, and develop the Project Controls Analyst team to build a strong, engaged, and high‑performing group.
- Provide hands‑on daily guidance, workload balancing, task prioritization, and real‑time support for issue resolution.
- Conduct regular check‑ins, team meetings, and one‑on‑one coaching focused on performance, growth, and well‑being.
- Establish clear responsibilities, competency expectations, success measures, and career development pathways for all PCAs.
- Foster a collaborative team culture based on communication, consistency, and accountability.
Operational Excellence- Oversee and continuously refine the daily operations of the PCA function, ensuring standardized, predictable workflows.
- Improve operational efficiency by streamlining templates, reporting cycles, forecasting processes, cost updates, and schedule support tasks.
- Identify and remove bottlenecks; simplify workflows between PCAs, PMs, Finance, and Operations.
- Implement lightweight operating rhythms (daily/weekly touchpoints, dashboards, KPIs) to support clarity and consistency.
- Monitor workload distribution to ensure balanced assignment of tasks and timely delivery of high‑quality outputs.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration- Serve as the primary point of coordination for all PCA‑related operational matters with Operations, Finance, and Project Delivery teams.
- Support project managers and PCAs in real‑time issue escalation and resolution, reducing ambiguity across processes.
- Lead or contribute to operational initiatives that integrate project controls workflows with broader business requirements.
Digital Innovation- Champion the adoption of digital project controls tools, reporting platforms, and automation solutions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve productivity through system enhancements and process simplification.
- Support the Director Operations on cross‑functional digital transformation initiatives that impact PCA workflows.
The Skills That Set You Apart:- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in project controls within engineering consulting, infrastructure, or construction.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor teams in a matrix environment with a strong emphasis on people development and day ‑ to ‑ day guidance.
- Strong understanding of cost control, earned value management, scheduling, financial performance monitoring, change management, and risk management.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with digital project controls tools, automation, and data ‑ driven reporting is an asset.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PMI ‑ SP, CCP) are considered an advantage.
CompensationAB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $122 900 - $162 800
MB & ON: $112,100 – $154 400
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $111,000 – $147,400
